Contemporary challenges in minimally invasive gynecology
Presented at the AAGL Global Congress on Thursday, October 30, 2008 in Las Vegas,
Nevada
Minimally invasive gynecologists face many challenges in performing hysterectomy
and pelvic floor repair. Up to 60% of these procedures are still done as open procedures.
What is preventing clinicians from doing laparoscopic procedures? This expert panel,
lead by Charles Miller, MD, examines the barriers to laparoscopy—reimbursement,
training, devices, data, and patient selection. This course also reviews mesh-related
issues—surgical technique, tissue preparation, patient selection—and how to avoid
complications.
At the conclusion of this webcast, the clinician should be able to:
1.) Identify patients appropriate for laparoscopic hysterectomies and pelvic floor
repair.
2.) Recognize barriers of adoption in laparoscopic hysterectomies in your practice.
3.) Implement strategies to avoid mesh-related complications in pelvic floor surgery.
4.) Manage mesh-related complications in pelvic floor repair surgery.
