Combining Assets to Develop State-of-the-Art Educational Resource for Gynecologic Surgeons and OB/GYNS

RELEASED: August 2007

MONTVALE, NJ – OBG MANAGEMENT, one of the nation’s most widely read and respected publications for obstetricians/gynecologists, and the AAGL, the premiere professional organization advancing minimally invasive gynecology worldwide, announce a collaborative effort to deliver cutting-edge information to ob/gyns.

Practical information about new and emerging research and advances in surgical procedures, instrumentation, and techniques will be presented in web-based and print materials, developed from the AAGL's 36th Global Congress of Minimally Invasive Gynecology, November 13-17, 2007, at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC.

Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery represents a rapidly developing field for physicians, with significant benefits to patients. This annual event is attended by 1600 physicians including ob/gyns specializing in minimally invasive gynecology and general gynecologic surgery, as well as other surgeons, residents and fellows, operating room personnel, and other allied health care professionals. In this forum new findings, tools, and techniques are unveiled to the community of gynecologic surgeons.

“The goal of the AAGL is to provide safe and efficacious gynecologic care to women worldwide,” says Linda Michels, Executive Director of AAGL. “This new collaboration with OBG MANAGEMENT will give us an important venue to disseminate information to our members and gynecologists throughout the world. Increasingly, physicians are turning to the web for the latest information in their specialty, and we are certain that the web casts and pod casts planned through this partnership will have an important role in medical education.”

OBG MANAGEMENT is distributed to 40,000 obstetrician/gynecologists and has significant offerings at www.obgmanagement.com. This initiative extends the journal’s tradition of providing the most up-to-date, authoritative, and timely information about emerging tools and techniques for ob/gyns to enhance patient care and improve outcomes. “Advances in minimally invasive surgery make this an exciting time in the specialty. OBG MANAGEMENT’s mission to enhance the professional development of ob/gyns; this partnership with AAGL provides a critical interactive link to meet those educational needs through print and online programs,” says Jenny Day, senior vice president and publisher of OBG MANAGEMENT.

To offer essential information about advances in the specialty, these leading organizations will combine technical resources with the involvement and support of leaders in the physician community. “Gynecologic care has changed significantly since many of us were in training. The AAGL’s Global Congress is a forum for the presentation of new and emerging techniques in minimally invasive care for women. The collaboration with OBG MANAGEMENT provides an efficient way for clinicians—many of whom cannot attend the meeting—to keep up with technological advances,” states Barbara Levy, OBG MANAGEMENT board member and AAGL past president and current CME Chair.
